What is a best friend?
On my healing journey from abuse, my understanding of true friendship has transformed in dramatic ways. Finding someone safe, loyal, and genuine takes time, but discovering genuine connection changes everything.
Through the hard times and good times
A true best friend isn't just there when life is easy and joyful. They stand beside you when things get painful, heavy, and complicated. Safe friendships offer unconditional presence without judgment, giving survivors a comforting space to heal, speak their truth, and simply exist as they are.
Kissing toads to find your forever bestie
Just like in romantic relationships, you might have to walk away from unhealthy bonds before you find your people. It takes courage to set boundaries and let go of relationships that no longer feel safe, but remember: you may need to go through some toads to find your forever bestie.

Jenn will always be my definition of a true best friend
Jenn and I met during a time when neither of us was expecting to or even looking for a new friendship while we were both working at SRTS in Sioux City, IA. We did the whole get to know your co-worker which turned into work friends which turned into outside of work friends which turned into something neither of us expected. A friendship so deep that we share our dreams, fears, struggles, hopes, call each other when we are just at our lowest point in our life knowing the other will not judge, but at the same time will call each other dumb asses when we do something so monumentally stupid that we just laugh and say dumb ass. This is the kind of best friend a woman needs the ones that she does not need to hide her true self with. The one she can be 100% authentic with.
